How to reach Rome

Arriving by plane

The main international airport of Rome is the "Leonardo da Vinci" airport in Fiumicino, located at about 30 km southwest from downtown. Connections to the city are available by train, by bus ( www.cotralspa.it, www.sitbusshuttle.it ) and by taxi. The most cost-effective solution to go downtown Rome is the no-stop train Leonardo Express (see below).

From Fiumicino airport by train (Leonardo Express)

The Leonardo Express connects Roma Termini station and Fiumicino airport every day in just 31 minutes and without intermediate stops.

The Fiumicino Airport railway station is conveniently located in the airport area and reachable by 5 minutes indoor walk. On your arrival just follow the indications for the station within the airport.
The first departure from Roma Termini is at 5.52 and from Fiumicino at 6.36. The last departure from the airport is at 23.36 and from Roma Termini at 22.52.

The fare is 14 euro (one way).

You can buy tickets online (http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/), at the ticket desks, station machines, travel agencies, authorised sales points, and also at the Trenitalia desk near the train for 15 euro (one way).  

This service is guaranteed also in the event of a strike (if necessary, the trains will be replaced by buses).

From Fiumicino airport by train (FR1)

 

 

The FR1 metropolitan service connects Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" Airport to the stations of Roma TrastevereRoma Ostiense, Roma Tuscolana and Roma Tiburtina. The service also stops at many other stations within Rome's metropolitan area. The fare is 8 euro. You can buy tickets online (http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/),at the ticket desks, station machines, travel agencies, authorised sales points, and also at the Trenitalia desk near the train.

 

Note: the trip from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Roma Tiburtino will take about 40 minutes.

 

 

From Fiumicino airport by taxi

At Terminals 1,2,3 and 5 of "Leonardo da Vinci" airport a taxi service to Rome city center is available. The cars for the taxi service of the City of Rome are white and can be recognized by the sign "TAXI" on the car top and by the identifying licence number on the doors, on the back and inside the car. Please use the queues outside the main exit gate. Do not accept invitations from taxy drivers who approach you before joining the queue or while waiting. The first available taxi driver will call you from the car. From the Fiumicino airport to any place downtown (within the area of the ?Aurelian city walls?), the flat rate is 50,00 Euro (inclusive luggage, up to four passengers, night fares apply). On most taxis you can pay by credit card. Please ask in advance to double check type of payment allowed and the flat rate application. Please, note that all the recommended hotels on the Biorob 2012 website are within the downtown area for which flat rates apply. If you book different hotel, it is strongly advised to double check with the hotel booking service whether taxi flat rate applies or not.

Connections between Ciampino airport and Termini railway station

Rome Ciampino is the second international airport in Rome. It can be reached via different bus routes. Daily connections between the airport and FS Roma Termini station or Anagnina Subway station (line A) are guaranteed by the bus services operated by ATRAL, COTRAL, SIT and TERRAVISION. The buses are parked in dedicated bus bays opposite International Departures. It is strongly recommended to avoid to use a taxi from Ciampino to Rome.

Arriving by train
